2023 - 2024 Session
(Sept. 5 - June 1)

SBA requires a placement class for all prospective students, ensuring the best level of instruction for your dancer. Young students (ages 6-11) may schedule a complimentary trial class. Intermediate level dancers (age 11 and up) may audition for Junior Company, and intermediate-advanced level dancers (age 13 and up) are eligible to audition for Senior Company.  Audition fee is $30 and is paid by check or cash. The placement is at the sole discretion of Artistic staff. Parents of younger students may observe the trial class.

All SBA students perform in the annual productions of The Nutcracker and Spring Showcase. Click here for more information about these performances.

Summer Intensive training is offered at every level of learning. For more information and registration, please click here.

Class Levels and Companies

  • The Boys Class provides training designed to enhance athletic skills, motor intelligence, balance, flexibility, and strength. Led by Artistic Director, Artur Sultanov, this class combines technique and conditioning focusing on age-appropriate skills and allowing students to develop as dancers and young men.

The Boys Class meets twice a week for classes and participates in two annual productions, The Nutcracker and Spring Showcase.

  • First level at our Academy is for any student with or without previous experience in dance. Our caring and knowledgeable instructors will make learning ballet a fun filled time at our studio. We encourage and motivate our young dancers by giving them an opportunity to move, stretch and learn creative dances.

Vaganova level meets twice a week for classes and participates in two annual productions,  Nutcracker and Spring Showcase.

  • Forté level is a beginning-intermediate class. Previous training is a plus but not required. This level focuses on the fundamentals of ballet technique. The class emphasizes proper placement, musicality, vocabulary, etiquette, stretch and conditioning. Students learn and practice their first ballet steps at the barre. This level helps dancers to understand how to build good technique from the very beginning.

This class meets twice a week and performs in two annual productions, Nutcracker and Spring Showcase. Summer training is encouraged at this level.

Assemble
  • Assemblé level builds on the skills introduced in Forté. Prior dance experience is recommended. This class emphasizes proper placement, musicality, developing strength, building endurance, and increasing flexibility through barre work. Dancers are introduced to the concept of a “combination” (two or three different steps put together and performed to music). Stretch and conditioning is incorporated into every class.

The choreography is more challenging and students have the opportunity to perform their dances at two annual performances, Nutcracker and Spring Showcase. Summer training is recommended at this level.

Jete
  • Jeté introduces a traditional ballet class structure. Students learn fundamental ballet technique through barre work, center exercises, and across the floor combinations designed to improve coordination, flexibility, endurance, and musicality. Steps will increase in difficulty and combinations will grow in length and complexity. Dancers at this level should be able to maintain their turnout and have strong ankles and feet for pre-pointe work. Stretch and conditioning is incorporated into every class. As students mature and develop stronger technique they will be evaluated for pointe.

Choreography and contemporary classes are offered at this level. Students perform classical and contemporary dances at two annual performances. Summer Intensive training is recommended at this level.

Junior Company
  • Junior Company/Junior Company Plus requires an audition or placement class prior to enrollment. The class focuses on proper placement and coordination for turns, pointe work at the barre, and learning more complex choreography for performances and competitions. The focus of this level is to build strength in legs and feet for more pointe work, develop body awareness in center, and continue to refine ballet technique. The use of correct arms and heads (épaulement) is emphasized. Stretch and conditioning is incorporated into every class.

In addition to two annual performances, students get an opportunity to audition for the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) competition and compete at regionals in Seattle. Summer Intensive training is expected at this level.

Senior Company
  • Senior Company requires an audition or placement class prior to enrollment. The class focuses on advanced barre work, center exercises en pointe, across the floor combinations with turns, challenging choreography en pointe, and advanced contemporary classes.

Senior Company dancers perform lead roles in Academy performances and have an opportunity to perform at the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) competition in Seattle. Students study with the Artistic Director during the week and rehearse with the Academy Rehearsal Director on Saturdays. Guest choreographers are invited to work with Company dancers during the Summer course. Summer Intensive training is expected at this level.

Private Lessons

We offer private ballet lessons at every level of training. These unique one-on-one experiences help give young dancers specialized instruction tailored to their specific needs.
