“I have 2 daughters training at this academy with Artur, Raisa and Megan. We talk so much about the grace, strength and discipline that our girls and boys develop from training at this outstanding studio, but I want to praise the way every instructor – including those guests during the Summer Intensive training – places tremendous importance on each child’s self esteem and the way these girls and boys have been given a platform for developing such incredible self confidence. I have watched my girls blossom under the tutelage of Artur, Raisa and Megan . . . and the bonus: beautiful ballet!”
–Parent of a Level 2 and Level 4 student
“My daughter attended another local ‘Ballet Studio’ for 4 years & we really enjoyed their sense of community but for ballerinas who want to go professional this academy is the way to go hands down.
They have a Beaverton location which has a lot of students but the Lake Oswego one is just developing so the student:teacher ratio is VERY good.
Artur is the Director & he is amazing. You can read his bio online. He is a no nonsense instructor but yet patient. They have other dedicated & highly qualified instructors that teach the Jazz & ballet technique class too. What I really like about this program is that they also require the kids to take a stretch class. Stretching is so important for dancers & everyone else for that matter.”

“Fantastic instruction and wonderful atmosphere for the students!”
–Parent of a level 5 student
“We are so impressed with the quality of instruction that our daughters receive at SRBA. While the term “Russian Ballet Academy” may sound intimidating, the environment is warm and friendly, yet still very structured. Artur Sultanov is demanding, yet able to bring out the best in his students in a positive way. The studio is young and growing and our daughters were warmly welcomed not only by the staff, but other students as well.”
–Parent of two Level 4 students
“Our family strongly believes in this studio and, of course, the Artistic Director Artur Sultanov. Excellent, supportive instruction, along with small class size, has helped our student grow by leaps and bounds. Most impressive though is that all involved with this studio have your child’s best interest at heart. We’re very thankful that we discovered this studio!”
–Parent of a level 5 student
“Artur, you are a generous teacher with so much to offer! You have a great heart for people and a beautiful spirit. I am always telling parents about your giftedness and how I am very choosy about who comes to teach for me. One of the first things that I noticed about you Artur was your humility and integrity. I love very much that you give each dancer attention and everyone has worth in your eyes as an artist and developing dancer”.
–Damaris Caughlan, Artistic Director of Metropolitan Ballet of Tacoma
“This is the second year that my daughter has been a student at this pre-professional ballet school. We could not be more pleased with the quality of instruction she has received. Her rate of improvement is at least ten times that of what she experienced at another area dance school. I believe that Sultanov Russian Ballet Academy provides the highest quality training in the state.
While some may be leery of the “Russian” in the name, perhaps imagining harsh instruction in a negative environment, nothing could be further from the truth. The school is led by artistic director Artur Sultanov, a Vaganova-trained former principal dancer at Oregon Ballet Theatre. Artur sets the bar (barre?) very high, but is incredibly kind and patient. I have never heard him raise his voice. Rather, he is funny and creative while still keeping his expectations high. My shy and quiet daughter takes weekly private lessons from him, and I have seen her abilities and her confidence soar. In additional to working her hard and providing many suggestions to improve her as a dancer, Artur also genuinely cares about her as person and seeks the very best for her holistically.
This ballet school offers several opportunities for students aside from the high-quality classes, including two performance shows a year (typically Nutcracker in December and a spring show), a rigorous and exciting summer intensive, and possible competition training and support for more advanced students. The tuition is fair and less than some other area ballet schools. There is the option of pre-paying the tuition for the year or the convenience of auto-pay each month. While the class sizes at the Beaverton studio are quite reasonable, the Lake Oswego studio is more newly established, so its even smaller classes allow for a significant amount of individual attention.
If you are looking for excellent ballet instruction in a kind and supportive environment, I encourage you to give Sultanov Russian Ballet Academy a call. You can try out a free class or arrange for a private assessment by Artur Sultanov. We feel so fortunate that we found them, and are excited to see our daughter continue to grow as a dancer under their care.”

“I have attended MBT’s Summer Dance Intensive Week in the summer of 2008 and 2009 with Artur Sultanov, guest artist, principal dancer from OBT. He taught me: barre work, ballet, pointe, modern, spanish-russian, character and partnering classes. I loved the way he made me feel accepted and encouraged me to learn and dance to my fullest potential. He demonstrates dance moves with precise, sharp and clean professional techniques but with a joyful, loving, kind and creative spirit. He most recently taught and completed an original piece for MBT company members, a very powerful modern piece, that we can use for any dance audition, called “You Found Me” by the Fray. Thank you for always sharing your special and unique gift of dance with others who love to dance too and bringing out the very best in each one of us. I look forward to another exciting summer dance week with you in 2010!”
–Melissa Sugita, Metropolitan Ballet of Tacoma student
“Artur Sultanov carries within him the best of the Russian tradition in classical training combined with wide experience in both neo-classical and contemporary dance. He is a brilliant artist and educator.”
–Alonzo King, Choreographer, Artistic Director, and founder of Alonzo Kings Lines Ballet in SF, Ca.
“Artur Sultanov has been a superb dancer and movement artist in a great range of styles. Always a top choice for choreographers, besides his notable contribution as leading dancer with the Oregon Ballet Theatre, he has been a guest artist with a number of other major companies able to be perfectly adept at the most classical and most contemporary work as well. He will surely bring as high a standard to his work as a teacher as he did to his life as dancer.”
–Lar Lubovitch, Highly acclaimed American choreographer and founder of Lar Lubovitch Dance Company
“Mr. Sultanov was my teacher last summer. It was really fun to study with such an amazing dancer. I think he is a great teacher and he taught me my first character dance. I also learned new stretches that improved my flexibility. He taught me good warm up exercises that really warmed me up! He is such a wonderful dancer. When he dances he makes it very grand so it is so special to watch him. He is nice and he smiles a lot too. It was an honor to have Mr. Sultanov teaching me. Studying with him was a great experience. He is a dancer and teacher that I will always look up to.”
–Raina, age 11
“Artur Sultanov is a dancer with a wealth of sensitivity and depth that betray his giant frame. A presence onstage that is impossible to take your eyes off of, he will constantly surprise with nuance, vulnerability, excellent technique, and a completely unique movement quality. I feel fortunate to have had the experience of making work with him because these qualities are just as apparent in the studio as he treats the creative process with reverence and curiosity. I very much look forward to seeing him share these gifts with the lucky students who will attend his school.”
–Trey McIntyre, founder and Artistic Director of Trey McIntyre Dance Project, former Resident Choreographer of OBT
